The Terraces of Château Avensac
Dear readers, as always it brings me joy to write to you. Life at the Château is certainly very different than I anticipated due to my legs, but we are making great strides at getting me back on my feet. The house is singing with the sounds of stone walls being chiseled and jackhammered as evacuation pipes are being snaked across the the upper floor, and brought down to the ground floor. The incredible feat of lifting the parquet floors in the library and the salon begin this week, lifted to allow channels to be dug beneath the floors to lay the last leg of the evacuation lines. Add to that the continuous screeching hum of channels being cut into the stone walls for electrical installation. The old saying certainly rings true here… It is going to get worse, before it gets better!
We have snuggled into the west wing for the winter as the east wing, and the main body of the Château have no electricity or running water. We will warm our little shivering bodies with electric heaters and hope to step out, alive and well, into a glorious spring. Work will continue through the dark days and I will keep you updated as we move along.
In the mean time… Phillip has been out on the grounds of the Castle filming. The Terraces of Avensac as well as the park below. Historic walls, monumental staircases, a run in with a terrifying creature, and getting lost in the woods. Well, perhaps I exaggerated a tad bit on the last two items, but a charming and entertaining walk in the woods nonetheless. Click on the image below or click here to watch.

Chers lecteurs, comme toujours, c'est une joie pour moi de vous écrire. La vie au Château est certainement très différente de ce que j'avais prévu en raison de mes jambes, mais nous faisons de grands progrès pour me remettre sur pied. La maison chante au son des murs de pierre que l'on cisèle et que l'on martèle au marteau-piqueur, tandis que l'on fait serpenter les tuyaux d'évacuation à l'étage supérieur et qu'on les fait descendre au rez-de-chaussée. L'incroyable exploit de soulever les parquets de la bibliothèque et du salon commence cette semaine, afin de permettre de creuser des canaux sous les planchers pour poser la dernière partie des lignes d'évacuation. Ajoutez à cela le bourdonnement strident et continu des canaux creusés dans les murs de pierre pour l'installation électrique. Le vieil adage est certainement vrai ici... Cela va empirer, avant de s'améliorer !
Nous nous sommes blottis dans l'aile ouest pour l'hiver car l'aile est et le corps principal du château n'ont ni électricité ni eau courante. Nous réchaufferons nos petits corps frissonnants à l'aide de radiateurs électriques et espérons sortir, vivants et en bonne santé, dans un printemps glorieux. Les travaux se poursuivront pendant les jours sombres et je vous tiendrai au courant de l'évolution de la situation.
Pendant ce temps... Phillip est allé filmer sur le terrain du château. Les terrasses d'Avensac ainsi que le parc en contrebas. Des murs historiques, des escaliers monumentaux, une rencontre avec une créature terrifiante, et se perdre dans les bois. Bon, j'ai peut-être un peu exagéré sur les deux derniers points, mais une charmante et divertissante promenade dans les bois quand même. Cliquez sur l'image ci-dessous ou cliquez ici pour regarder.
